Marvel’s Christopher Yost to Rewrite Masters of the Universe for SONY

Variety is reporting that Christopher Yost (Thor: The Dark World) is now handling the scripting duties for the upcoming Masters of the Universe movie. Previous drafts of the Masters of the Universe script were written by Terry Rossio and Jeff Wadlow. Yost has been an active writer since 2005, working on X-Men: Evolution, The Batman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and TV shows and movies set in the Marvel comics universe. In August 2013, Yost was announced as the writer for Mattel’s Max Steel feature film, as well as the co-writer on the upcoming Marvel movie Thor: Ragnarok.

Variety includes a general synopsis for the movie:

Set on the planet of Eternia, the story follows a warrior named Prince Adam who has the power to transform into the heroic He-Man. His nemesis is a villain named Skeletor who seeks to conquer a fortress known as Castle Grayskull in order to learn the secrets held within.

The Masters of the Universe movie is being produced by Sony Pictures and Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch from Escape Artists. The original cartoon, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe aired from 1983-1985. A live-action film was made in 1987 starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor.
